How to Avoid Writing The Novel
Go to Starbucks so you can have time to yourself.
1. Peel last year’s Nanowrimo sticker from the area below your lap top keyboard. Use your fingers so the glue smears all over everywhere. Press items of clothing over this. The glue attracts lint which you can then move around in hopes of further loosening the mess. Continue to rub the sticky smear toward the outer edges of the lap top and form a ball that you can then flip away with your fingers. Now that this has been taken care of you can get down to business.
2. Check email.
3. Empty email folders of old items.
4. Open Excel. Make detailed spreadsheets to track writing time, daily word count, expenses if there are any, and writing goals.
5. Email friends to tell them how excited you are that you finally decided to get serious about your writing.
6. Check time. Calculate how much time is left to get writing goal in before going to pick up child at preschool.
7. Rearrange columns and items in spreadsheets, making more tabs for upcoming months.
8. Start blog post to be edited later. Jot down any other ideas you might like to write up later on.
9. Get something to eat, refill coffee.
10. Read your friend’s blogs, post comments.
11. Check email to see if friends have responded yet.
12. Peel residual bits of Nanowrimo sticker glue from lap top surface.
13. Pack up lap top, get restroom key from barista, go to the bathroom. Coffee goes right through you. Return key, set up lap top again.
14. Get on Nanowrimo site so it’s up and ready for you to enter your word count for the day. While there, check out the writing prompts, podcasts and pep talks from famous writer’s and Nanowrimo staff. Peruse Nanowrimo online store. Check on writing buddies and see how they’re doing. Send your buddies encouraging emails if it looks like they’re struggling.
15. If you still have time left to avoid writing, get on Facebook and update your status, then check out what everyone has been up to. You will be out of the loop since you’ve been spending so much time avoiding writing.
Hooray for November!

I could have gone on and on!
And then because I didn't get it down, the novel is banging around in my head while I'm trying to do other stuff. On and on it goes...
