The Believability issue: Why can't a porn star run for congress?

I want to put this out there. Some of you will take this as confirmation that I actually lost my mind some time ago and this is the verification you needed to cut ties. Fine. You won't be the first, and you won't be the last.

For the rest of you, bear with me a second, then any thoughts you have on the subject are more than welcome.

When I heard that  a well known adult film star was talking about running for congress against a guy who had been connected with the DC Madam. You know, one of those good old family boys. I thought 'WOW. What if she did it? '

All the reporters and commentators were making fun of her, just like they made fun of another one when she got pregnant.

Are we that silly and shallow? And puritanical? Really?

Don't get me wrong at all, I am not exactly pro pornography, just like I am not exactly pro abortion, but I am for people being able to make those decisions for themselves.

Anyway, I couldn't get the idea out of my head. What kind of woman could have a successful career in adult films, then have another career in politics?

Is it the distasteful element of the wanton hussy that offends? Can she not have a brain? Could she not be a professional, even in that profession? Aren't politicians the ones who spend the most time trying to cover up and lie about having sex? What if she didn't because it was such a well known fact?  I thought the idea was fascinating. So far it doesn't look like things have worked out for her, but I wanted to explore the issue nonetheless.

Haven't we had some presidents and congressmen who were actors, wrestlers, and  musicians? What about all the adulterers, liars, and general screw ups? If all a woman did was have sex on screen but she met the rest of the qualifications, why can't she make decisions and lead others?

Obviously she will have some hurdles to overcome, but that is the intent of my book.

What do you think? Is this the goofiest thing you have ever heard, or the most original?

I'm all for it! It's kind of like the Man of the Year movie with Robin Williams about a Jon Stewart figure who runs for president. Only a lot more controversial. I can't wait to read your story!

Thanks for the encouragment. If I can get at least 10,000 readers who think the same way, I'll be fine. You are # 4 with a positive response.

Keep watching my website, I plan to post a few playlists for my story, one of them being for 1983. When the story starts my character is 14. Flashdance had just come out, so both "Maniac" and "What a Feeling" were popular. Also, "China Girl" by David Bowie, and "King of Pain" by the Police, and "Photograph" by Def Leppard.
